The Albert Lea boys’ hockey team got its season started off on the right foot Tuesday night against Waseca.
After giving up the game’s opening goal, the Tigers shut down the Blue Jays and got two goals from Cole Wentzel, and one each from Mitchell Evans and Sam Chalmers to win, 4-1.
Waseca’s Spencer Heitkamp scored the game’s first goal — a short-handed one — in the first period.
It would be the only goal Albert Lea goaltender Ben Witham would allow. He stopped nine of 10 shots.
The Tigers would respond in the second period with a short-handed goal of their own, by Evans, to even the score.
Wentzel scored a goal in the second and third periods, and Chalmers added one for good measure.
Albert Lea moves to 1-0 on the season.
It will take travel to Austin on Thursday.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
