50 years ago: 1966

• The Alden Blackhawk basketball team remained undefeated in the Border League at 3-0 after defeating Bricelyn 57-52. Al Lindeman scored 20 points and Mike Nelson 17 for the Blackhawks. The Braves were led by Arwin Flo with 14 points and Glen Oelerking with 13.

• New Richland improved its Gopher Conference record to 4-0 after defeating Medford 63-56. Tom Bergner scored 19 points for the Cardinals.

• The Albert Lea High School hockey team defeated Owatonna 4-3 in a Big Nine Conference hockey game. Scoring goals for the Tigers were John Morley (2), Gary Barb and Gary Hillman  (1) each.

• The ALHS basketball team defeated Wells 55-50.  The Tigers were led by Dan Doty with 19 points and Chuck Slette with 12. Bob Prange scored 23 points for the Wildcats.

25 years ago: 1991

• Balanced scoring for the ALHS boys basketball team led it to a 68-52 victory over Mankato East and raised its season record to 3-0. Chris Boysen scored 14 points, Wade Hammer 13, Steve Brigg 12 and Paul Kenis 12 for the Tigers.

• Named to Big Nine Conference All-Conference volleyball team from ALHS were Laura Bisek and Donelle Jensen. Receiving Honorable Mention were Julie Vanderploeg, Laura Mikulich and Julie Mullenbach.

• The ALHS wrestling team with six wrestlers winning by pins defeated Rochester John Marshall 54-21. The Tigers winning by pins were Kenny Tufte at 103 pounds, Travis Wasmoen at 125 pounds, Nate Skaar at 130 pounds, Albert Savala at 135 pounds, Craig Nelson at 145 pounds and Chris Steichen at heavyweight.

10 years ago: 2006

  The Glenville-Emmons boys basketball team won its first 2 games of the season at the Rebel Classic in Adams. The Wolverines defeated Schaeffer Academy in a first round game 41-36. Jarrad Knutson scored 24 points and had 14 rebounds for the Wolverines. G-E defeated Grand Meadow 48-34 in the second round game. Knutson again led G-E with 28 points and 10 rebounds.

• In a North Iowa Conference girls basketball game, Lake Mills defeated Belmond- Klemme 38-26. The Bulldogs were led by Megan Pederson with 19 points and 15 rebounds.

  Sam Hallman scored 23 points and had 11 rebounds for Alden-Conger in its 72-66 win.
