The Lake Mills girls’ basketball team has had no problem scoring points in its first four games of the season.

The Bulldogs came into Tuesday’s game against Bishop Garrigan averaging 78.8 points per game, including 84.5 points at home.

On the contrary, Bishop Garrigan came in as a stout defensive team, suffocating opponents on defense and holding them to an average of 30.3 points per contest.

The saying goes, “Offense wins games. Defense wins championships,” and defense certainly won out Tuesday.

Bishop Garrigan held Lake Mills to 16 field goals and 44 points in a 55-44 win.

“We simply didn’t come to play tonight,” Lake Mills coach Thad Evans said. “We beat ourselves, and we couldn’t get out of the rut we put ourselves in.”

Jade and Jewell Gasteiger led the Bulldogs with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Jenna Boetler led Bishop Garrigan with 24 points and teammate Grace McGuire chipped in with 10 points.

Lake Mills (4-1) will return to the hardwood Monday when it hosts Central Springs (2-1).
