Lodge No. 44 Zare Zapadu
Lodge No. 44 Zare Zapadu met Dec. 4 at the Glenville American Legion. At the meeting, Lodge members enjoyed ham, hash brown casserole and baked beans — all of which were catered by the Albert Lea Hy-Vee. Also, Lodge members brought in various Christmas baked goods and salads to share with others. In all, the food was good and enjoyed by everyone.
After dinner, Lodge President Dan Rayman called the meeting to order with 34 members present.
The group discussed at the meeting its yearly pancake breakfast. It will be from 7 a.m. to noon March 5 at the Glenville American Legion. Everyone is welcome to attend, as there will be a bake sale and the pancake breakfast will be a free will offering. Also at the pancake breakfast, there will be tickets sold for the Czech Fest. Members were asked to look at the Fraternal Herald for further information. The proceeds of the pancake breakfast and the bake sale will be put toward the upkeep of the Brick Hall.
Also at the meeting, items were collected to be donated to the Salvation Army Food Shelf in Albert Lea, as well as various items for the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester. In total, the Lodge donated 90 pounds to the Salvation Army; which is great! Thank you to all who donated to both the Salvation Army and the Ronald McDonald House; it is greatly appreciated.
The next order of business at the meeting was the election of officers, and the nominations for officers are as follows: Dan Rayman for Lodge president, Dan Belshan for Lodge vice president, Dennis Rayman and Marcella Nelson for Lodge treasures, Karen Nyenhuis for Lodge secretary and Elise Nyenhuis for Lodge correspondent. At the meeting, all members present approved the nominations for the officer positions for the 2017 year. Thank you to the officers; it is appreciated.
This month, the Lodge made 20 gift plates for members who are unable to attend the monthly Lodge meetings. Afterwards, various Lodge members delivered the gift plates, which consisted of an apple, an orange, grapes, a few different Christmas cookies, a piece of chocolate and a rohlíky. Thank you to everyone who helped.
The next Lodge meeting will be Jan. 4 at the Glenville American Legion with a potluck supper starting at 5:30 p.m. Please plan on attending and bring a dish to pass.

Fully Rely on God of Central Freeborn Lutheran Church
On Dec. 3 with the sun shining, 43 people boarded a coach bus in Albert Lea with Marilyn Matson at the helm.
The bus, sponsored by Fully Rely on God of Central Freeborn Lutheran Church, headed south of the border on Interstate 35.
Bob and Genie Hanson plus Wayne and Bev Indrelie are the co-chairpersons of FROG.
Dec. 3 was a labor short-handed trip, as Wayne and Bev Indrelie had family doings to attend. Genie Hanson was unable to attend because of being under house arrest. The Albert Lea Police even drove by her house checking.
‘Twas then that Cindy Anderson stepped in with a helping hand on the bus. Thanks to Anderson.
A numbered Christmas stocking shaped like a litter bag from the Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau was given to each person as they got on the bus. In the bags were coupons from the guys at Slumberland, DQ south, KFC and Arby’s, all of Albert Lea.
Twelve games of deal or no deal were played on the bus. Seven of the winners said deal to the prize while five said no deal with those prizes sold for $17. Elaine Wach was the lucky $17 winning name draw.
The group reached its destination and Matson parked the bus where the passengers could see the lighted Christmas parade plus the excellent fireworks shot over Clear Lake. Passenger Ruth Olson took great pictures of the ending fireballs.
All aboard and back to Wok-N-Roll for the tough job for what to eat before the tummy gauge showed full. The employees most certainly know the definition of good service, and that they gave.
Karen Borneman just shined as she led the group in singing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” to the Wok-N-Roll staff.
The next FROG party will be a Valentine’s Day event will begin at 6 p.m. Feb 4. at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church. There will be pizza, pop and 12 games of Norwegian bingo followed by an ice cream buffet. Reservations are needed.
An almost-new, blck, right-handed ladies glove was found on the bus. It may be claimed by calling 373-8655 and correctly stating what country manufactured it.
Genie Hanson is no longer under medical house arrest and her husband says “Yahoo.”
