The NRHEG wrestling team was busy over the weekend as it competed in the Redwood Riot at Redwood Falls High School.

The Panthers finished in 18th place out of 20 teams, and had one place-winner — Cole Staloch — who came in seventh place in the 152-pound weight class.

“This tournament was good experience for both our varsity and junior varsity team,” NRHEG coach Shawn Larson said. “We were able to compete in a what that whether we won or lost, we were able to learn from the matches. I was happy with our efforts.”

Staloch beat Worthington’s Frank Rogers in the first round, but lost to Litchfield’s Logan Nelson twice, including once in the consolation round. Staloch won his seventh-place match over Jon Gehl of Fulda-Murray City Central. He also won three other matches on the weekend.

“(Cole) wrestled well over the weekend,” Larson said. “He lost two matches to the same guy, but it would have been interesting to see how he would have matched up with some other competitors.”

The Panthers will not wrestle again until Jan. 6 when they will host Maple River and Kenyon-Wanamingo.
