Ever since beating Winona on Nov. 22, the Albert Lea girls’ hockey team has had a tough time scoring goals and stopping shots.
That trend continued Thursday night when the Tigers faced Rochester Mayo.
Albert Lea allowed 55 shots on goal during a 7-1 loss to the Spartans.
Tigers goaltender Maddie Schneider stopped 21 shots in the first period and Albert Lea trailed 1-0, but things unraveled in the second period.
Rochester Mayo’s Eryn Fjelstad scored two goals in a five-goal period for the Spartans. Albert Lea’s Riley Hanson responded with a goal, but the Tigers trailed 6-1 after two periods.
The Spartans would add another goal in the third period, and Fjlestad was credited with the assist, giving her five points on the night.
Albert Lea was called for six penalties in the game, but allowed just one power-play goal.
Albert Lea’s losing streak now stands at six games, and it has a goal differential of minus-28 during that span.
Albert Lea will travel to Mankato on Tuesday night to faceoff with Mankato East.
