Tigers swim hard, but fall to Spartans at home

The Albert Lea boys’ swimming and diving team held its last swim meet of 2016 Thursday night against Rochester Mayo.

The Tigers swam strong, but came up short against the Spartans 88-68.

The Tigers had a number of swimmers swim well, but  not well enough to get Albert Lea over the hump.

Carter Simon came in third place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.90. Esteban Johnson came in fifth with a time of 25.52 and Ian Oolman finished sixth in a time of 26.44.

In the 100 fly, Aaron Zogg took fourth with a time of 1:04.26 and Adam Fitzlaff finished fifth with a time of 1:18.75.

In the 500 free, Andrew Field finished second with a time of 6:05.69 and William Taylor came in third with a time of 6:13.16.

In the 200 relay, the team of Simon, Johnson, Zogg and Oolman came in first place with a time of 1:45.80.

Travis Nemec came in first place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:09.62.

Albert Lea is off until 2017 when it will host Owatonna Jan. 5.

Start time for the meet is scheduled for 6 p.m.
