Virginia Johnson, 1940-2016

Funeral services for Virginia A. Johnson will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. James Kassera will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea as well as one hour prior to the church on Friday. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Virginia passed away Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016, at Thorne Crest Senior Living Community. She was 75.
Virginia Annette (Svendsen) Johnson was born Dec. 31, 1940, in Albert Lea to Lorenz and Violet (Anderson) Svendsen. She attended school in Albert Lea and got her GED after her children were grown and she was very proud of that. She married Duane Leroy Johnson on Sept. 28, 1957, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.
Virginia loved having coffee with friends and family. She loved working with flowers and decorating her home — especially for Halloween, which was her favorite holiday. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family meant so much to her!
She is survived by her loving husband, Duane; son, Marty (Peggy) Johnson; son, Danny (Lisa) Johnson; son-in-law, Bruce Nelson; grandchildren Crystal, Wade, Krista, Robert, Sarah, Heather, Nicholas and Christina; great-grandchildren Hunter, Gretah, Stellah, Axel and Viviana; brothers Dallas Svendsen and LaMoyne Svendsen; sister, Goldie Svendsen; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Rick Johnson; and daughter, Reedie Nelson.
Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601; Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or donor’s choice.
The family would like to extend a thank you to Dr. Boyce, the staff at Oak Park Place and Thorne Crest for their wonderful care.
She will be so missed by her family and friends that knew her. Blessed be her memory!
