Funeral services for Effie Neist will be at 10 a.m. Jan. 21, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Eileen Woyen will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, and again one hour prior to the service at the church.

Effie passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Community. She was 95.

Effie was born Oct.18, 1921, in Elmore. She was raised by her mother, Julia. She attended and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1939. She attended one year of college at Mankato Commercial College. On June 22, 1947, she was united in marriage to Harvey Neist at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The couple was blessed with two children.

Effie was a homemaker. When she was able to get out of the house, she spent a lot of time volunteering for various organizations. She volunteered for Naeve Hospital, American Red Cross, Albert Lea Public Library, the Visitors Bureau and Trinity Lutheran Church. She was the Trinity Lutheran Church Women treasurer and fellowship secretary. She enjoyed making quilts for the church missionaries and enjoyed recycling cards. Effie enjoyed volunteering because it was a way for her to help other people. She always thought of others before herself.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; and her mother, Julia.

She is survived by her children Steven Neist and Ronald Neist; grandchildren Rebecca Neist and Matthew Neist; as well as many other loving relatives and friends.
