Marge Thiner, 1944-2017

Funeral services for Marge Thiner will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2017 at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Russ Scepaniak will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea and again one hour prior to the service at church. Interment is planned for a later date.

Margaret “Marge” Thiner of Walters passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea, after a four year battle with cancer. She was 72.

Margaret Laura Thiner was born Dec. 2, 1944, to parents Eleanor (Tauer) and Florian Wurtzberger Sr. in Sleepy Eye. She grew up near Hanska and graduated from Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s School. After high school graduation, Marge worked out at Glacier National Park for a summer and always had a special place in her heart for Montana. She went on to complete nursing school and held her first nursing jobs at Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis and at the Shakopee hospital.

On Sept. 20, 1980, Marge married the love of her life, Charlie Thiner, in Sleepy Eye. They eventually made their home near Mansfield. Marge then spent 33 years as a nurse with Albert Lea Medical Center. She loved taking care of others. Marge was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and St. Theodore Catholic Church. In her spare time, she liked to read, garden, and gamble a little. Marge loved her cats and enjoyed visiting with friends and family, especially her granddaughters. She was a strong person and a loving caretaker. Blessed be her memory.

Marge is survived by her daughter, Anita (Josh) Petersen; son, Dan Thiner (special friend, Nate); brothers Pat (Carol), Woody, Tony, Jimmy, Jerome, Danny (Lisa), David, Jake (Joni) and Randy (Sandy) Wurtzberger; sisters Donna (Rod) Howk, Mary (Larry) Wilfahrt; honorary sister-in-law, Mary Olmscheid; numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and several other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charlie; brother, Paul; an infant brother; niece, Miranda Wurtzberger; and goddaughter, Pam Peterson.
