Letter: Exhibit was not approved by board

Published 9:00 am Sunday, February 26, 2017

I am the secretary of the Freeborn County Arts Initiative. It has come to my attention that an article went out attributing an independent exhibition in the building to the FCAI. I would like to clarify that this show, the Black Lives Matters exhibition, located on the south hall wall, not in our gallery space, was not approved by or sponsored by our board of directors.

We at the FCAI respect everyone’s right to be heard and encourage artistic expression from all viewpoints. We simply did not choose this show for our 2017 schedule and believe we have on offer the best shows possible for our audience. Please come check out our Portals exhibition before it is gone. Our next show is a beautiful ceramics solo exhibition which opens on March 7. You won’t want to miss this one.

There are many artists and businesses in our shared building. We cannot take any credit or responsibility for their actions. We are also not in any way affiliated with the Albert Lea Art Center, which is not located here. We regret the confusion. Hopefully this letter will help to clarify our position.
