Principal’s Corner by Diane Schultz

You have seen in past articles where it was noted that when we make decisions, the question asked is, “What is best for our students?”

At Sibley Elementary this year, we have worked as a staff to create a building mission and vision. Within our mission we look at social, emotional and academic needs.

Recently, a member of the Albert Lea Police Department met with all of our elementary administrators to discuss the possibility of collaborating with them within our schools. At the beginning of February our local law enforcement began coming to each of our elementary buildings during a week to eat lunch and socialize with our students.

The week of Feb. 13-17, Albert Lea officers were at Sibley Elementary. Having these connections with adults in our community are an excellent way to build relationships. It is an opportunity for our students to know our local officers are here to help our community; including the many ways they help and support our students.

Our students are asking daily if the officers are coming again. We are so grateful that the Albert Lea Police Department came to us and we are able to make this work.

After all, this is what our business is all about — doing what is best for our students.

Diane Schultz is the principal of Sibley Elementary School.
