Sharon Kay “Sherry” Grunzke, 69, of Wells died Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, at her home. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s UCC Church in rural Wells with the Rev. Cherie Daniel officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Sharon was born Dec. 23, 1947, in Blue Earth, the daughter of Malvin F. and Geraldine (Johnson) O’Keefe. She was united in marriage to Larry Grunzke on July 1, 1967, in Blue Earth and to this union two children were born. Sherry and Larry would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July.
Sherry attended secretary school in Albert Lea. She was employed at Hubbard Milling and Nordaas Homes. She also worked at Parkview Care Center for 10 years. Sherry and her husband, Larry, enjoyed every summer for 45 years traveling to the Lake of the Woods. Fishing was one of Sherry’s top hobbies/interests. She was very proud of her fishing abilities and techniques. She was happy and excited to travel to Idaho to see her son and family, also visiting friends in Arizona. Sherry was excellent at sewing. She made her wedding dress and three bridesmaid dresses. Many quilts were stitched together by her loving hands for family and friends.
Her pets were very special to her. She loved them so and they loved her. Sherry was a member of St. Paul’s UCC for 49 years. She taught Sunday school and was a member of the women’s guild. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.
She is preceded in death by her parents; mother- and father-in-law Donald and Helen Grunzke; and brother, Ronald O’Keefe.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 49 years, Larry Grunzke, of Wells; two children, Trudy (friend, Orland Yokiel) of Wells and Terry (Kirsten) of Boise, Idaho; eight grandchildren, Angie (Bryce) Mastin of Blue Earth, Brooke (Brett) Loge of Blue Earth, Annie Schroeder of Wells and Taylor Howell, Madison Grunzke, Chandler Grunzke and Lauren Grunzke, all of Boise; step-grandsons Sam and Hunter Fellin; honorary granddaughter, Claire Christianson; great-grandson, Stetson Loge; two sisters, Shirley (Larry) Krohn of Nicollet and Marilyn (Scott) Barnick of Wells; brothers-in-law Dale (Barb) Grunzke of Wells, Donnie Dean (Sue) Grunzke of Alden and Neil (Terri) Grunzke of Freeborn; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
