Local scouts join the fight against hunger

Food that was collected was given to the Albert Lea Salvation Army food shelf and the Ecumenical Food Pantry at First Presybterian Church. – Provided

Area Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts representing Twin Valley Council joined in the fight against hunger through Scouting for Food, one of the largest nationwide food collection events in the United States. Food donations totaling almost 36,000 pounds were collected by 956 Scouts and volunteers in the Twin Valley Council service area. All of the food collected was taken to local food banks in each community.

For over 101 years, the Boy Scouts of America has been an active participant in helping communities.

Scouting for Food provides area Scouts an opportunity to better understand the problems of hunger and help them realize that they can have a positive impact on concerns directly affecting their community.

Twin Valley Council is a partner agency of the Greater Mankato Area United Way. In keeping with the values of scouting, Scouts devote themselves to community service.
