The second annual Work Skills Challenge Day was April 18 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, according to a press release.

The focus of the event is student participation to help them gain real life experiences for their future job search and life after high school.

Students from the 18-21 transitions program as well as from the Albert Lea High School vocational program attended. The students prepared ahead of time by filling out job applications and developing a resume, as well as practicing job interviews.

These skills were put to good use during the competition, as the students sat down for individual mock interviews, completed a general knowledge test and took part in male and female discussions on building healthy relationships.

There were 12 vendors available for students to meet, which gave them valuable information.

New friendships were made between students from the eight school districts attending and awards were presented in conclusion. Albert Lea Area Schools received third place overall.
