The Albert Lea High School vocal music department will present a show choir showcase concert at 7 p.m. Monday in the ALHS auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door. Family music concert passes are not valid for this concert since it is a fundraiser, according to a press release.
Performing on the concert will be five different show choirs from around the area: both pop groups from Albert Lea High School, a middle school group from Forest City High School, a girls’ group from Glenville and the collegiate show choir from North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City. This is the fifth year for such an event. The performance takes the place of the large show choir competition which has taken place in previous years and will be the only fundraiser for the show choir this year.
SASS is the all-female pop choir at ALHS directed by Mary Bissen. The group has converted to a vocal jazz group this year and rehearse one morning a week. It will perform “Good Old Acappella,” “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and “There’s Another Train.”
CATaclysmic, a mixed group with students in grades nine through 12, will perform “Let’s Get Loud,” “Better When I’m Dancin,’” a Michael Jackson medley of “Man in the Mirror” and a rock medley entitled “I Love Rock and Roll.” The group rehearses before school one to two mornings per week and go on a retreat to help create its high-energy show.
CATaclysmic is directed by Diane Heaney and has an accompanying combo of Romario Rosas, Darren Guildner and Dylan Callahan.
