Annual Geneva Cancer Run planned

GENEVA — For Dee Ann Randall, the Geneva Cancer Run is more than an opportunity to support those who have cancer — it’s a passion.
Over the years, Randall, one of the organizers of the event, has found herself on the doorsteps of those fighting the disease with a cash gift meant to help defer some of the expenses people face after diagnosis. The funds might not be able to help pay for the cost of chemo, but it can help with transportation costs with going to appointments, whether it be gas, meals or perhaps even a babysitter.
In these moments, Randall said she hopes she’s offering more than a donation, but also a sign of love, support and hope.
“It’s always pretty emotional,” she said of approximately 70 visits she has personally made.
Now in its sixth year, the Geneva Cancer Run has been scheduled for June 10. The money raised at the event benefits area families and helps Randall and her team continue to make these visits. About 15 percent of the proceeds are donated to the Geneva Cancer Fund to help cancer research as well.
The day will start with registration from 9 to 11 a.m. at Geneva Bar and Grill in Geneva. The cost is $10 per rider, whether they choose to take a vehicle that rides on two wheels or four. The ride leaves promptly at 11 a.m. While the exact route is still in the works, Randall said the ride this year will head toward Mankato and circle back to Geneva, where more activities are planned at Geneva Bar and Grill, including a raffle, silent and live auctions, and live entertainment.
Around lunchtime, riders will be provided a meal at a stop along the route. A meal will also be available for the riders for a donation upon returning to the bar around 4:30 p.m.
Activities run late into the evening, and camping is available for those who would like to do so.
Last year, the ride hosted about 180 vehicles, most of which were motorcycles, and raised $20,000.
Those who have questions or would like to donate to silent and live auctions, can contact Randall at 507-291-1241 or drop off items at Geneva Bar and Grill by June 8.
More information about the run will be released closer to the time of the event.
