Hazel Sampson, 1927-2017

Hazel Elaine Sampson, 90, of Kiester died Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kiester. The Rev. Katie Pals will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Hazel Sampson

Hazel Elaine Sampson was born April 1, 1927, in Joice, Iowa, and baptized at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. She was the daughter of Alfred and Alma (Brackey) Greene and was united in marriage to Irving J. Sampson in Kiester. Born to this union were two daughters, Patricia Ball of Burnsville and Julie Scherb of Clarks Grove.

She was a longtime member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Association and Dorcas Circle at church, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 46 years. She loved playing bridge, poker and blackjack in Kiester, Wells and Bricelyn. She visited and wrote many letters to people in rest homes. She loved her neighbors Jan and Connie Engebretson so much.

She is survived by her daughters Pat and her husband, Ken Ball, of Burnsville and Julie Scherb and her friend, C. Carlson, of Clarks Grove; grandsons Tracy Ball and John Ball and his wife, Kaylee, all of Lakeville; granddaughter, Michelle, and her husband, Bryan Johnson, of Elko New Market; three great-granddaughters, Natalie, Savana and Maraya Ball, of Lakeville; two sisters, Sharon Kalis of Montgomery and Mary Hoeft of Arizona; several nieces and nephews and their families; and a huge host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Irving, in 1995; and two sisters, Jeane Hellie and Lavonne Scott.
