Letter: Kindness has made a big difference

I’ve had four surgeries in the past year and a half — two for back/spine repair and correction and two new knees. Following these surgeries, I’ve been sent to the St. John’s nursing short-stay unit and then I’ve been homebound at my own house, unable to drive for a few weeks.
It is unbelievable how thoughtful and kind everybody has been. I feel so blessed and lucky to live in this Albert Lea community. I’ve been the recipient of beautiful cards, letters, flowers, food, help, phone calls, rides to appointments and church, friends bringing groceries, visitors and people praying for my recovery.
If someone ever wonders if they should send a card or make that phone call, believe me it makes a great difference. Things and small acts of kindness make a world of difference. It spreads sunshine and love and happiness. God bless all of you.
I just love to send cards and letters. If I am out of stamps, it is a real crisis — like a smoker being out of cigarettes! I know first-hand now how uplifting it is to get mail! In the words of Gomer Pyle, “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” That’s from the bottom of my heart.
Life is a little bit like keeping a used car running. You repair one thing, and then down the road a different part needs attention.
