An Albert Lea man who reportedly intended to manufacture methamphetamine earlier this year pleaded guilty Friday in Freeborn County District Court.
Michael Allen Haukoos, 39, pleaded guilty to possessing meth precursors with the intent to manufacture in one file. He pleaded guilty to felony receiving stolen property on a separate file in a case involving a stolen car and thousands of dollars of other items that were found in February 2016 at Haukoos’ Manchester residence.
Sentencing on the two files are scheduled for June 29. Haukoos is expected to have a sentence capped at 90 days in jail for intending to manufacture meth, and a sentence capped at 60 days in jail for receiving stolen property. If Haukoos violates his conditions of release set by District Court Judge Steven Schwab Friday, those maximum sentences could be voided. He is expected to pay restitution.
Haukoos was charged in the first file after Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office deputies executed a search warrant Feb. 7 at an Albert Lea address where Haukoos lived with someone he knew.
A deputy reportedly found a suitcase with multiple rounds of ammunition and a pry bar. A blue shopping bag behind a couch was found with coffee filters, a plastic bottle with a hole in it, a mason jar of fluid, a container of iodized salt, drain cleaner, a prescription bottle with white pills, lithium batteries, aluminum foil and a blender — all items typically used to manufacture meth, court documents state. A deputy reportedly recognized it as a type of portable meth lab. A plastic bottle with plastic tubes found with other precursors and one of three glass tubes found in a drawer reportedly tested positive for meth.
Haukoos admitted Friday to possessing the items with the intent to manufacture meth. Additional counts of being an ineligible person in possession of a firearm and receiving stolen property are expected to be dismissed at sentencing.
Haukoos was charged in the second file after a burglary was reported Jan. 13, 2016. Haukoos and Brianna Mae Jergens were arrested Feb. 2, 2016, in connection with the burglary after a deputy noticed a 2009 Cadillac CTS valued at about $25,000 at 113 McKinley St. in Manchester that was reported missing from a garage in Albert Lea, along with two flat-screen televisions, two golf bags with clubs, two safes, a jewelry box, jewelry and some silverware from the house.
During a search of the house in Manchester, officers and deputies reportedly found several stolen items, and Haukoos was found hiding under a pile of laundry in the basement.
Haukoos admitted Friday to possessing the stolen property.
Jergens, 24, of Albert Lea pleaded guilty to gross misdemeanor possessing stolen property last month in connection with the case.
