The Retired Educators of the Albert Lea Area will host eight southeastern Minnesota societies for the annual southeastern Minnesota retired educators meeting April 26 at the American Legion hall in Albert Lea. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with refreshments. A sit down meal will be served at noon with music provided by Barb Lang.
According to a press release, Albert Lea City Manager Chad Adams and Suzie Peterson, director of the Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau, will welcome the group and acquaint them with the features of Albert Lea.
The remainder of the day’s program features an update by Ellen Kehr on future plans for the Blue Zones Project.
Dan Sorenson will talk about a project with Jay Enderson on the former Wedge Nursery property north of Albert Lea, where they are developing Three Oak Vineyards and Winery.
Kim Nelson, executive director of the Freeborn County Historical Museum, will talk about her vision for the future of the museum, especially focusing on educational aspects for the community.
Retired Educators originated in 1963 to improve the economic, social and civic status of its members; to cooperate with the region and state organizations of retired educators; and to work for legislation that would improve the annuities and other benefits of educators. Representatives from the state organization, Retired Educators Association of Minnesota and Teachers Retired Association, attend each year to provide the latest information.
All retired school personnel from the surrounding areas are invited to attend. The cost for the day will be $25 at the door or $20 if paid in advance to Ann Berry, 610 Johnson St. in Albert Lea.
