Roger Jahnke, 1941-2017

Visitation for Roger E. Jahnke, 75, of Alden will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. A private family funeral will take place at a later date. The  Rev. Greg Ofsdahl will officiate. Interment will be  at Alden Cemetery. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.

Roger died Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at his home.

Roger Eugene Jahnke was born May 29, 1941, in Albert Lea, the son of Albert and Marie (Jacobs) Jahnke. He grew up in rural Alden, was baptized and confirmed at Mansfield Lutheran Church and graduated from Alden High School. After graduation, he briefly worked at Wilson & Co., where he started driving truck. He then went on to drive truck for Streater for 43 years. Roger enlisted in the National Guard in 1964.

On Jan. 23, 1966, Roger was united in marriage to Shelia Tompkins in Mason City. In addition to driving truck, Roger actively farmed his entire life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Roger is survived by his wife, Sheila; daughter, Angela Brandt; son, Bradley (Michelle) Jahnke; grandchildren Lexi Paige, Brooklyn, Anna, Camryn, Whitney and Jordan; brothers Jerry (Elaine) Jahnke and Dale (Suzie) Jahnke; and sister, Cheryl Mischke.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Marie.
