Students at The Children’s Center helped plant trees Friday for Arbor Day.

Albert Lea city employees instructed students on the process of planting trees and the necessity of planting. Children scooped dirt and helped solidify the trees that were planted in front of the building.

Teacher Samantha Register described the event as a learning process and said she discussed planting trees with her students last week.

“Trees are good,” said Parks Superintendent Joe Grossman. “They sequester carbon and they absorb excess rainwater, provide oxygen. There (are) so many trees taken down, and not enough re-planted. It adds a cooling effect to the environment, it calms people down. It makes your neighborhood more inviting, saves energy through the reduction of the use of energy of air conditioning — a number of benefits.”
