Albert Lea Community Theatre announced auditions will be held Sunday and Monday for “Mary Poppins” at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, 147 N. Broadway in Albert Lea.
Directed by Steven Kinney with musical direction by Barb Lang, nine performances of this Disney musical are scheduled for July 13 to 22, according to a press release.
There are many roles in the show for men and women, some of which may involve singing and dancing. There are two primary child roles and may be other opportunities for children to be cast as townspeople. Children ages 8 to 12 will audition first at 7 p.m., and auditions for adults and teens will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. Children must be at least age 8 to audition. Those auditioning should be prepared to sing, learn a simple dance routine and read from the script. You can attend either night of auditions, but do not need to attend both. The music director also is searching for good adult singing voices to be a part of an offstage chorus — these singers would not have to appear on stage.
Rehearsals will be scheduled weeknights, with some weekend involvement closer to the performance dates.
“Mary Poppins” is one of the most popular Disney movies of all time. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the Banks family how to value each other again. “Mary Poppins” is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, breathtaking dance numbers and unforgettable songs, such as “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Jolly Holiday” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” according to the release.
