The Albert Lea City Council awarded a contract Monday for the Lake Avenue and East College Street reconstruction project.
The contract was awarded to Albert Lea-based Ulland Brothers Inc. for about $711,000.
The Lake Avenue and East College Street project includes the complete reconstruction of bituminous surface, curb and gutter, sidewalk, water main, sanitary sewer and storm sewer of Lake Avenue from Clark Street to East William Street, Lake Avenue alley extension from East William Street to Elizabeth Avenue, and East College Street from Newton Avenue to approximately 200 feet east of Elizabeth Avenue.
The contract, which was lower than the engineer’s estimate, was awarded after architectural firm Zenk Read Trygstad & Associates reviewed the bids, which were opened May 16.
The council has awarded contracts for other street projects planned for this summer:
$1.48 million to Willmar-based Quam Construction Company Inc. May 9 for Sunset Street work that will include the reconstruction of the concrete surface, curb and gutter, water main, sanitary sewer and storm sewer. Parking is planned for elimination on the north side of the road, and a sidewalk will be added. Nine parking stalls will be added in front of Fountain Lake Estates.
$422,591 to Ulland Brothers April 10 for the Plaza Street realignment project that will move the street’s location west of Bridge Avenue to line up with the portion of Plaza Street east of Bridge Avenue.
$1.05 million to Ulland Brothers April 24 for the 2017 neighborhood project that includes the bituminous reclamation, reconstruction, miscellaneous and total curb replacement and miscellaneous sidewalk replacement on roadway in northeast Albert Lea.
