Frances Marinan, 91, of Burnsville, formerly of Albert Lea, has died.

She was preceded in death by husband, William, and son, Terence.

She is survived by children Linda Marinan, Kevin (Laura) Marinan and Carolyn (Joe) Marinan Dutton.

Frances was born and raised in Ukraine. During World War II she experienced many hardships, including the death of her family and the forced use of her interpretation skills by the Nazis.

After the war, she worked in Munich for a German photographer and it is there that she met and married an American soldier named William J. Marinan. They relocated to the United States, first to Duluth, then Lombard, Illinois, before finally settling in Albert Lea.

During the course of her life in Albert Lea, Frances worked at a variety of jobs, but was able to spend most of her time being home with her family. She had many good friends and neighbors and loved daily chats with her best friend down the block. She was a devout Catholic, was active in the church and looked forward to parish activities and going to Mass each Sunday. Frances enjoyed gardening very much and was most content while working on her many plants and flowers. Her backyard was awash with color each and every spring and summer. She was a renowned baker and her family, friends and neighbors could all attest to her skills. She loved sharing her delicious pies, cakes and cookies with everyone.

Frances had a lively personality and loved talking with people about the community happenings, politics or life, in general. She had a wealth of interesting stories to tell those who asked about her childhood and incredible background.

Frances Marinan will be remembered by many for her kindness, her loyalty and her fun-loving nature. But to her friends and family, she will be most remembered for her very generous nature.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. June 2 at Washburn-McReavy Funeral Home, 2300 W. Old Shakopee Road in Bloomington.
