Project: Jessica Lokken School of Music and Art which provides a summer school featuring music and fine art for youth in Freeborn County
Report: The tuition-free, non denominational school offers a safe and creative environment for youth ages 6 to 18 years to learn about, experience and appreciate the value of music and art in their daily lives. The goal is to assist students to develop music and art skills that may be used to develop music and art skills that may be used a a lifelong avocation, especially children who may not otherwise have this kind of opportunity.
According to the press release, the theme for the 2016 school was “Let Your Light Shine.” It took place in June with over 100 attendees. Qualified musicians and teachers offered instruction in the following areas: choral music, instrumental lessons in harp, percussion and handbells, and art classes using various mediums.
The school culminated in a commencement concert attended by more than 400 parents, friends and community members. The students showcased their artwork and performed a numbers of percussion, harp, handbell and choral pieces.
A grand reception followed the concert in celebration of the students’ accomplishments.
