Ruth Thompson, 1920-2017

Funeral services for Ruth Thompson will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Glenville. The Rev. David Efflandt will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.

Ruth died Saturday, May 13, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Community after a brief stay.

Ruth Thompson

Ruth A. Thompson was born June 15, 1920, the daughter of Alfred and Rachel (Hill) Espeland. She grew up and attended school in Worth County and Glenville. Ruth was united in marriage to Ellard Thompson in Glenville. They made their home in rural Glenville, where they operated a dairy farm. She enjoyed working on the dairy farm and being a homemaker. Ruth had been a member of the Sunset Saddle Club and a 4-H leader. She was a member at First Lutheran Church in Glenville.

Ruth enjoyed traveling, camping, knitting, dancing with the love of her life, spending time with family and friends and playing Skip Bo. Ruth was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was cherished and will be missed by all.

Survivors include her sons Larry (Connie) Thompson of Glenville, Keith (Bobbie) Thompson of Appleton, Wisconsin, and Terry (Mindi) Thompson of Abilene, Texas; grandchildren,  Stacie (Dale) Stensrud and Justin (Cassie) Thompson; great-grandchildren Kayln, Brayden (fiance, Allura), Alahna, Maverick and Lexus; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Judy) Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ellard; brother, Tolford (Ila Mae) Espeland; sister, Mertice (Carl) Schumacker; brothers-in-law Harland (Gladys) Thompson and Maynard Thompson; niece, Pam Jesse; and nephew, Richard Remus.
