Spotlight on 1st-graders

First-grade students at Hawthorne Elementary School participated in a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) activity during their media class. They used Code and go robot mice. Students worked with partners. One was the computer programmer or coder, and one was the engineer or builder. The engineer built a maze for the mouse to get to the cheese. The programmer coded the mouse to get to the cheese. After a successful run of the program, the students switched jobs. Students used collaboration skills, perseverance, problem solving, analytical thinking and spatial reasoning. - Provided
