A.L. wrestler receives All-State honors

Albert Lea area wrestler Brody Nielsen was selected to The Guillotine 2017 Academic All-State First Team, according to a press release.

The 2017 edition of The Guillotine Academic All-State honorees represent 72 teams and must be a junior or senior. The edition features 30 first-team members, 30 second-team members, 30 third-team members and 35 honorable mention wrestlers. Nielsen’s wrestling and academic excellence qualified him for the top 30 in the state of Minnesota.

11th grade, 138 pounds

Nielsen is a two-time state entrant placing third at 138 pounds this year in Class AA. He had a season record of 25-3. His current career record is 82-17, including 44 pins. Nielsen’s GPA is 3.93. Honors and achievements include most falls for Albert Lea in 2016-17, high school honor roll every semester, four-time letter winner and youth wrestling coach. His future plans are to attend a four-year college. Nielsen’s parents are Jeff and Jodi, and his coach was Larry Goodnature.
