Glare of sun reportedly contributed to collision

An Albert Lea man was injured Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Main Street and Garfield Avenue in Albert Lea.

Danielle Peterson, 33, was transported by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea with an unknown injury.

Peterson was injured after his 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser was struck by a 2012 Buick Enclave, driven by Donald Wallace, 76, of Madison, Wisconsin.

According to police, Wallace was heading west on Main Street, approaching the intersection with Garfield Avenue on the shoulder of the road. He reportedly did not see the red light at the intersection because of the angle of the sun and turned into the path of the PT Cruiser.

The crash took place at about 5:50 p.m.

Gold Cross Ambulance and Allen’s Tow-N-Travel assisted.

Wallace and Peterson were wearing their seat belts, and alcohol was not a factor in the crash, the report states.
