Chip sealing begins Monday

The city of Albert Lea street department will begin the annual chip sealing of city streets beginning Monday and will continue for the next three weeks, according to a press release.

Chip sealing involves placing a thin layer of oil on the street and then covering the oil with a layer of protective rock. The streets to be chip-sealed this year include the streets east of Garfield Avenue and south of Main, Garfield Avenue from Fairlane Terrace to the Blazing Star Landing Trail, and Clark Street from First Avenue to Highway 13.

Temporary “No Parking” signs will be installed the day prior to placement of the chip seal and will remain until the streets have been swept, usually about three to four days.
