Funeral services for Kathryn (Knaack Holstad) Hanson, 79, of Albert Lea will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church. The Rev. Shane Koepke will officiate. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.
Kathryn died Sunday, June 4, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.
Kathryn Ingaborg Knaack was born March 26, 1938, in Shell Rock Township, Freeborn County, the daughter of Emil and Ina (Westrum) Knaack. She grew up in rural Glenville and attended school in Glenville and Albert Lea. On Nov. 26, 1954, Kathryn married Aldon Holstad. He passed away in 2004. On Nov. 12, 2005, Kathryn married Carroll Hanson.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Kathryn enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, sewing and crocheting. She was very intelligent and inquisitive, keeping up on current events. She searched for spiritual meeting in life and living. Kathryn loved spending time with her family and had great concern for others.
Kathryn is survived by her husband, Carroll Hanson; children Pat (Brad) Martinson, Tom Holstad and Jody (Lon) Christianson; daughter-in-law, Jolene (Dave) Ward; grandchildren Erik (Lindsey) Holstad, Justin Holstad, Jennah Holstad, Leif (Ashley Abbe) Martinson, Kelsey Martinson, Seth (Sasha) Holstad, Kail Christianson and Emily Christianson; three great-grandchildren; stepchildren Brad Hanson and Amy (Duane) Asche; step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; sisters Gen Lau, Janice (Jim) Lembke and Bonnie (Ron) Rasmusson; and several nieces and nephews.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Aldon Holstad; son, Steven Holstad; brother, Richard Knaack; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews; and Carroll’s son, Todd.
Memorials are preferred to Greenwood Cemetery.
