The Freeborn County Historical Museum will be open for self-guided tours from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., and the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center will be open from 4:30 to 7 p.m. A buffet open to the public will be from 6:30 to 7 p.m. at the Albert Lea American Legion, and a portion of the road downtown will be closed to accommodate the event.

Participants will stay in an Albert Lea hotel before leaving for their next destination Monday.

Members of The Old Car Company of Southern Minnesota will bring cars to the Legion at about 4:30 p.m., said Dave Mullenbach, who is involved in the event.

He said the tour is important for the city of Albert Lea because it will showcase amenities the community has.

The tour begins Saturday in Dennison following the annual Lincoln Highway Conference and will end that day in Ames with an opening dinner. The group will travel east on Sunday to Colo, Iowa, where the group will join the the Jefferson Highway, heading north to Canada.

Tour members will visit the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake and visit Minneapolis and Lake Itasca, as well as travel the back roads of the Jefferson Route. The tour is planned to finish in Winnipeg at the terminus of the Jefferson Highway. Participants from there can choose the Trans-Canada Highway to Ontario, Lake Superior and Soo Locks. Taking the road west leads to the Canadian Rockies.

The Lincoln Highway Association is receiving help on the tour from the Jefferson Highway Association.
