On Monday, the Albert Lea girls’ golf team took part in the second day of the section tournament in New Prague.

The Tigers started the day in fourth place and were unable to make their way to the top of the leaderboard, finishing in fourth and shooting a team score of 396.

“The girls were disappointed in their play during sections,” Tigers coach Shawn Riebe said. “They kept grinding and just couldn’t put it together. I felt horrible for them.”

Two-round totals for Albert Lea are as follows: Maddy Carstens (196), Emma Loch (196), Natalie Nafzger (197) and Charlie Fleek (208).

While it didn’t end the way the Tigers hoped, there is plenty of reason for Riebe and the girls to be excited for next season.

Albert Lea doesn’t graduate one player from this year’s roster.

“They wanted it, but the game of golf is fickle,” Riebe said. “The girls clearly have the section title in their sights for next year. They know what it takes to get there and it will be up to them to get it done this summer.”
