Vintage Style Show to return for its 5th year
Published 9:12 pm Thursday, June 1, 2017
A fashion show highlighting vintage clothing styles will take place June 10 at First Lutheran Church.
The show, in its fifth year as a fundraiser for the Freeborn County Historical Museum, features clothing from Mary Packer-Umstead’s collection.
Umstead, who has collected vintage clothing for more than 29 years and owns Mary-Go-Round-Shoppe, said this year most of the outfits will be from the 1960s with some from surrounding years.
There will be 18 models, ranging in age from 5 to 88 years old. Each model will showcase multiple outfits.
Umstead said as a surprise this year, there will be three outfits worn by Phyllis Gates-Hudson, the former wife of American actor Rock Hudson. Gates-Hudson is related to Carol Jacobs of Albert Lea.
The event begins at 9:30 a.m. with a brunch catered by PJs Catering. The style show will begin shortly after.
Special music will be provided by Gail Thurnau.
There will also be three or four tables with displays for people in attendance to view.
Umstead started the show with the help of former museum board member Kelly Schultz.
Umstead said she is known for her vintage clothing collection and has had people, including Albert Lea Community Theatre, come to her to borrow the clothing items. Others donate their items to her.
She is excited to share her collection with the community and said she and Schultz met with each model individually to find outfits that would work for them.
Tickets are $18 per person and are available at the Freeborn County Historical Museum, the Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Mary-Go-Round Shoppe and Addie’s Floral.
Tickets need to be purchased by Monday. No sales will be made at the door.
Funds raised go to support the Freeborn County Historical Museum programs and projects.
