Bernadine Eastman, 1921-2017

Bernadine Faye Eastman, 96, of Wells died Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at Parkview Care Center in Wells, surrounded by her family.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Open Doors United Methodist Church in Wells. The Rev. Paul Woolverton will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, and will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment will be Rosehill Cemetery in Wells.

Bernadine was born Jan. 7, 1921, in Faribault County, the daughter of Lloyd and Hazel (Ayers) Crowell. She was confirmed at United Methodist Church in Walnut Lake. At 15, Bernadine went to work for the Dr. Art and Laura Peterson family. She helped care for their girls, did housekeeping and was part of the family.

She was united in marriage to Armund Eastman on Dec. 27, 1938, in Mason City. Together they farmed south of Wells and raised two children, Barb and Brian. Bernadine sold Avon for many years and was proud of the many awards she received. She also worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Peterson for many years. Bernadine loved her church and participated in the choir, evening circle and the couple’s club.

Bernadine is survived by her children Barb Fuchs of Wells and Brian (LeAnn) Eastman of Winnebago; grandchildren Lori (Richard) Hueper of Minnesota Lake, Gayle (Brian) Redig of Wells, Julie Mattick of Mankato, Jill (Josh) Rollenhagen of Wells, Clint (Jessica) Eastman of Winnebago and Cari (Doug) Jenkins of Winnebago; 14 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Armund; brother, Myrle Crowell; son-in-law, Arlyn “Bud” Fuchs; brother-in-law, Vern (Florence) Eastman; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
