MANKATO — A truck driver who hit and killed a Wells man this spring is now charged with misdemeanors.
Danny Salazar, 27, of North Mankato was charged Tuesday in Blue Earth County District Court with four driving infractions in connection with a March 29 crash near Mapleton that killed Alan Remington, 65.
Salazar is facing charges for not stopping at a stop sign, not stopping at a highway entrance, careless driving and not driving with due care.
Salazar was driving a semi truck and didn’t stop for the stop sign as he turned from westbound Highway 30 right onto Highway 22, according to the criminal complaint.
Remington was southbound on Highway 22 in a Buick LeSabre and was truck on the driver’s side by the semi truck. The semi rolled onto its side and the LeSabre went into a ditch, according to the complaint.
Remington died at the scene. Salazar was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Salazar reportedly admitted he ran the stop sign. He told authorities he was on the Highway 30 detour due to the construction occurring on Highway 22.
