Karelyn Porter, 1939-2017

Karelyn Kay Porter (Olson), 77, of Rochester, formerly of Albert Lea, died surrounded by family on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Community due to complications from a stroke.

Karelyn was born on Dec. 2, 1939, in Albert Lea to Manley and Alma (Cram) Olson. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1958. She married Keith Porter Sr. on Aug. 3, 1958, and the couple had three children.

She enjoyed embroidery, baking for friends and family and bragging about her grandchildren. Karelyn really enjoyed cooking for any reason and for anyone. She was very thankful for all of the friendships she had over the years in Rochester. She loved spending time going to the movies, going out to eat and other various outings with her friends. The support given by these people will forever be treasured.

Karelyn is survived by her siblings Doreen Plaisance of Swannanoa, North Carolina, Dick Olson of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Arlan (Lyla) Olson of Citrus Heights, California; children Kristie (Brian) Jordahl of Albert Lea, Keith Jr. (Kim) Porter of Albert Lea and Kent (Kelly) Porter of Cheyenne, Wyoming; eight grandchildren, Kellie Jordahl, Josh Jordahl, Stephani Terry, Steven Wasmund, Ami (Dustin) Garduno, Sarah Porter, Hannah Porter and AJ Porter; seven great-grandchildren, Damion, Zach, Marissa, Ana, Logan, Jayci and Evan.

Karelyn loved polka dots so her family invites those who knew her to wear polka dots to her celebration of life at 11 a.m. today at the Bonnerup Funeral Service chapel in Albert Lea. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Glen Monson will officiate.
