A 40-year-old Clarks Grove man is facing multiple charges in Freeborn County District Court after leading authorities on a chase Monday afternoon that ended when he crashed into another car and fled into a cornfield.
Carlos Reyes faces six counts: third-degree meth possession in a school zone, fifth-degree felony possession of a controlled substance, felony fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, gross misdemeanor criminal vehicular operation, gross misdemeanor failing to stop for a traffic collision and misdemeanor fleeing a police officer by a means other than a motor vehicle.

Freeborn County District Court records state the chase began after an officer with the Albert Lea Police Department attempted to pull Reyes over at the intersection of Front Street and First Avenue for having a felony warrant.
Reyes reportedly attempted to flee from the officer through the Kwik Trip parking lot at about 1:45 p.m. before turning west on Front Street.
Court documents allege Reyes accelerated to 76 mph in the 30 mph zone, past Sibley Elementary School and Southwest Middle School and then northbound onto U.S. Highway 69.
The vehicle then reportedly turned westbound on Freeborn County Road 46.
At the highest speed, the chase reached 90 to 100 mph and traveled to the Manchester and Hartland areas.
Reyes ultimately drove over some stop sticks at the intersection of 315th Street near 740th Avenue, before continuing east on 315th Street. He then turned onto 760th Avenue, followed by 340th Street, 72nd Avenue in Steele County and 158th Street in Steele County.
At the conclusion of the pursuit, Reyes reportedly struck another vehicle at the intersection of 340th Street and 730th Avenue — where Steele, Waseca and Freeborn counties come together.
Reyes then reportedly got out of his pickup and started running to a cornfield.
A deputy reportedly successfully followed the path of broken corn stalks and ultimately caught up with Reyes. He was found with a small black propane torch, a brown leather wallet, cash and a white, powdery substance found to be methamphetamine.
Reyes was previously convicted of first-degree controlled substance possession in 2013 and fourth-degree sale of a controlled substance in 2006.
He is being held on $125,000 bail and is next slated to appear in court Aug. 31.
