Norman Storvick, 1926-2017

Memorial services for Norman Anders Storvick, 90, of Bricelyn will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Kent Otterman will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by local servicemen’s organizations. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Sunday. Norman Storvick

Norman passed away peacefully Monday,  Aug. 21, 2017, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. Norman was born Aug. 23, 1926, to Alert C. and Henrietta (Rogness) Storvick. He was raised on the family farm in Glenville and attended Albert Lea High School. He was blessed with two children from his first marriage to Lorraine Thompson, and five children from his second marriage to Melisse.

Norman joined the Marine Corps in 1945 and served 19 months as MP on the USS Ranger. He was on the Minnesota Pistol Team before being asked to join the Army Reserves. For seven years, he won the Minnesota State Pistol Championship in the 5th Army Reserves and also won the national championship once.

Norman founded Norman’s Nordic Kringle in 1989 in Nevada, Iowa. It was a family-run business for many years and he took great pride in it, calling it his “best adventure.”

He is survived by his sons Stephen (Kim) Storvick of Glenville, Aaron Storvick of Waseca and  Nathan Storvick of Bricelyn; daughters Christine (Rob) Adams of Ames and Suzanne (Heather) Moses of Albert Lea; son-in-law, Jerry Schwemmler, of Alden; sister, Solveig Peterson, of Albert Lea; brother, Alvin (Ruth) Storvick ,of Fairbanks, Alaska; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Waldemar Storvick and Adrian Storvick; daughter, Cynthia Schwemmler; and son, Scott Storvick.
