Peggy Borchard, 1947-2017

Funeral services for Peggy Borchard of New Richland will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. The Rev. Paul Andree will officiate. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Friedrich/Bonnerup Funeral Home in New Richland and one hour before the service at the church.

Margaret Ann “Peggy” was born Jan. 31, 1947, in Albert Lea to Vivian and Rance Lane. She graduated from New Richland-Hartland High School in 1965 and then attended Mankato State College.

She was united in marriage to Thomas Borchard on Oct. 25, 1970, in Minneapolis. Peggy worked for NSP in Minneapolis and St. Cloud. The couple returned to New Richland in 1974, and Peggy served as the secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church and then Owatonna Oral Surgery for several years before she retired.

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school, volunteered at church events and was a part of the Trinity quilters. Throughout her life Peggy enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting and all kinds of crafts. Many were the recipients of handmade gifts made with love. Peggy was active in her children’s lives, volunteering at school events and was even a troop leader for Girl Scouts as well as Boy Scouts.

Peggy died peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, in her home. She was 70.

She will be lovingly missed by her husband, Tom; three children, Dan Borchard (Lori Shock) of Owatonna, Lynn (Keith) Goepfert and children Kolton, Konner and Erin of St. Michael and Laurie Borchard (Neal Narahara) of Los Angeles; sisters Janice (Bob) King of Colfax, Iowa, and Carol King of Cumming, Iowa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law David Borchard (Pat Donohoe) of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, Clark (Bonnie) Borchard of Minnetonka and Carol (Dave) Wolter of Albert Lea; and many nieces and nephews.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents Vivian Johnson and Rance Lane; her brother-in-law, Thomas King; and mother-in-law and father-in-law Ralph and Ruth Borchard.

Peggy had a way of bringing everyone together and making everyone feel special. The many birthday parties, thoughtful gifts and kind words she shared will always be treasured. Her strong faith, positive attitude and keen sense of humor made all who knew and loved her feel richly blessed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Lymphoma Research Foundation. The family is also collecting photos and memories of Peggy that they will turn into a keepsake book. Contributions can be made at www.newlywords.com/peggyborchard.
