The funeral for Denise M. Frydenlund will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Rochester. The Rev. Dave Berg will officiate. Burial will be at Byron Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Byron Funeral Home, 1620 Voll Drive NW in Byron, and one hour prior to the service at the church Monday.

Denise Frydenlund, 40, of Byron died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Hospital Methodist Campus after a lengthy and very courageous battle with cancer. She handled every challenge that was thrown at her with grace and dignity.   

Denise was born Dec. 2, 1976, in Rochester to Larry and Roberta Heitman (Ramthun). She graduated from Zumbrota-Mazeppa High School in 1995. She graduated from Rochester Community and Technical College with an Associate of Arts in 1997 and Minnesota State University in Mankato with a Bachelor of Science in accounting in 1999, with magna cum laude honors.   

On Sept. 7, 2002, she married Travis Frydenlund at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Rochester. The couple lived in Byron for 15 years and were blessed with three children — two daughters and a son. Denise worked for Smith Schafer and Associates as an auditor for four years and U.S. Bank as a credit analyst for 13 years.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Travis; children Kylie, 11, Avery, 8, and Tyler, 8, all of Byron; parents Larry and Roberta Heitman of Rochester; sister, Dawn Hensel, and her husband, Latham (Gene), of Rochester; nephews Deshawn Hensel of Rochester and Dylan Hensel of Rochester; parents-in-law Gerald and Carol Frydenlund of Albert Lea; and sister-in-law, Kirsten Thalberg, and her husband, Jon, of Monticello. 

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Robert and Raeburn Ramthun; paternal grandparents Alfred and Norma Heitman; aunt, Lois Heitman; and uncle, Kenneth Ramthun.

Denise enjoyed scrapbooking — especially those special trips with Amy Hameister, Cheryl Stinson and Michelle Arnold. She enjoyed attending all of her children’s many activities and cheering them on from the sidelines, and just spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed by all those she leaves behind. 

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society in memory of Denise.
