Sorum & Schmitz

Summer Elyse Sorum and Jeffrey Alan Schmitz of Willmar were married at 4 p.m. Sept. 1, 2017, in a lakeside double ring ceremony at Stonewall Farms north of Willmar. The Rev. Steve Zwart officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Barb Sorum and Russell Sorum, both of Albert Lea, and the granddaughter of the late Ardus Roberts-Jergensen of Albert Lea, Paul and the late Nancy Sorum of Glenville and the late Palmer and Leota Neste of Waseca.

She is a 2003 graduate of Albert Lea High School, and she is pursuing a degree in business. She is a health service technician with Minnesota State Operated Community Services in Willmar.

The groom is the son of Rob and Bette Schmitz of Spicer and the grandson of the late Edward and Louise Schmitz of New London and the late Robert and Verna Grossman of Esko. He is a 1999 graduate of New London-Spicer High School and a 2002 graduate of the University of Wisconsin in River Falls, where he majored in marketing communications. He is a chaplain for United Campus Ministry in the Willmar area, co-director of Youth for Christ Joppa and pastor at Blomkest Baptist Church.

The bride was given away by her brother, Navy Chief Justin Sorum of Detroit, who wore his full military dress uniform.

The matron of honor was Ashley Riskedahl of Hartland, sister of the bride. The maid of honor was Faith Sorum of Albert Lea, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Anna Tensen of Virginia Beach, Virginia, friend of the bride; and Whitney Roche of Albert Lea, friend of the bride. 

Flower girl was Grace Riskedahl of Hartland, niece of the bride and daughter of Jade and Ashley Riskedahl. Personal attendant was Liz Sorum of Glenville, sister-in-law of the bride.

The best man was Adam Westby of New London, friend of the groom. Groomsman were Will VanDijk of Willmar, friend of the groom; Mark Schmitz of Bloomington, brother of the groom; and Josiah Samuel Parker of Willmar, friend of the groom. Ring bearer was Dylan Riskedahl of Hartland, nephew of the bride and son of Jade and Ashley Riskedahl.

Musicians were Reuben and Hannah Lanctot, Ann Holter and Rebecca Gardner, all of the Willmar area. Scripture reader was Les Graham of Willmar. Ushers were Ben Zieske of Willmar, friend of the groom; Adam Schorn of Willmar, friend of the groom; Adam Sorum of Glenville, brother of the bride; and Mat Kraay of Willmar, friend of the groom.

A reception and dance followed the ceremony. The couple resides in Willmar and is looking forward to a Hawaiian honeymoon later this year.
