Lorraine Joyce Sauer, 87, of Wells died Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. The Rev. Mary Iverson will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the church. Interment will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Wells following the service. Lorraine was born June 8, 1930, the daughter of Ernest and Lydia (Frederick) Thisius. She graduated from Wells High School. Lorraine was united in marriage to Richard Sauer on Oct. 18, 1949, at Faith Lutheran Church in Wells. They raised their two sons, James and David, on the family farm where Lorraine grew up. She especially enjoyed working on the farm alongside Richard.

Lorraine worked for 24 years as the elementary school secretary, a job she also loved.

Lorraine lived on the farm until 1984, when she moved to Wells and her son, David, took over the farm operation.

Lorraine’s first focus was her family and she never missed a gathering or event. She also enjoyed spending family time at the cabin. She was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school, was involved in Women of the Evangelical Church Association, Joy circle, altar guild and other committees.

Lorraine was very social over the years and played a lot of cards — especially bridge. She also enjoyed golfing. If she wasn’t selling tickets at the local sporting event or school musical, she could be found watching and supporting various activities. She also enjoyed watching Minnesota sports teams — especially the Twins and the Gophers.

Lorraine volunteered her time clearing tables at The Shepherd’s Inn, where she was also a resident.

Lorraine is survived by her sons James (Linda) Sauer of Prior Lake and David (Brenda) Sauer of Wells; grandchildren Steven (Michele) Sauer of Shakopee, Shannon (Nicholas) Arnold of Savage, Matthew (Elizabeth) Sauer of Mequon, Wisconsin, Michael (Bryanna) Sauer of West Lakeland, Richard (Brooke) Sauer of Dayton, Victoria Sauer of Elysian, Mary Peters and Brent Sauer; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard, in 1982; and Richard’s parents Hilton and Irene Sauer.
