Mary Timm, 1924-2017

Mary I. Timm, 93, of Albert Lea, formerly of Huron, South Dakota, passed away Friday, Oct. 6, 2017,  at St. John’s Lutheran Community in Albert Lea. Her graveside service will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday at Riverside Cemetery in Huron. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. 

Mary I. Jewett, the daughter of Artie and Maggie (Jones) Jewett, was born Aug. 29, 1924, in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, where she attended school.

Mary met her husband of 49 years, William Timm, while working at a defense plant in San Diego during World War II. The couple were married 10 days later on Nov. 29, 1942, in Yuma, Arizona.

The couple farmed in Huron until 1966, when they moved to Rock Falls, Illinois, and then to Brewster from 1973 to 1978. Their son, Dwayne, graduated from Brewster High School in 1977.  In 1978, Mary and William moved to Albert Lea so that William could take a new job at Land O’ Lakes. Their daughter, Kathy, graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1984.

Mary and William were proud to have raised four children. After retiring in 1987, they began to spend their winters in Florida, Texas and Arizona.

Mary enjoyed gardening, sewing and knitting. Mary and William also loved square dancing and were members of square dancing clubs in Huron, Worthington and Albert Lea. They even had the privilege of square dancing for President Jimmy Carter’s presidential inauguration.

Grateful for having shared in Mary’s life are her children David (Theresa) Timm of Ogden, Utah, Dwayne Timm of Albert Lea and Kathy (Tony) Thompson of Glenville; granddaughters Casey and Page; grandson, David; two sisters, Shirley Neal of Locust Grove and Ilah Grace of Chandler, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William, in 1992; son, Darrell Timm; and four brothers, Claude, Doyle, Jess and Junior Jewett.
