Hank passed away Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017.
Hank was born in his home in Springfield to parents Vivian and Henry Joseph Guse Sr. on Oct. 24, 1936. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1954 and continued his education at Mankato State University, where he graduated with a teaching degree. His first teaching job took him to St. Ansgar, where he met his lovely future wife, Janice Marie Steinberg.
Their path later took them to Albert Lea, where Hank was employed as a high school teacher and District No. 241 administrator for over 35 years. Hank was proud to be a teacher, and genuinely loved teaching kids not only history and humanities, but also general life lessons.
He always said, “I’ve had a really great life, a really great one! I have no regrets, none. I have a loving family and so many wonderful friends with whom I have lots of fantastic memories. That is what life is about. So no tears when I die, just celebrate the great life I’ve had!”
Hank is survived by his loving children Kim and husband, Ret. Col. David Rabb, Jackie Guse-Schoonover and Matt and his wife, Rodi Guse. He will be dearly missed by his 11 grandchildren, Zach, Mandy Leietta, Alyse, Andrew, Ben, Mia, Sam, Ellie, Bryn and Clare; and one great-grandchild, Kaiah.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jan; parents Vivian and Henry Guse Sr.; mother- and father-in- law Gertrude and Elmer Steinberg; as well as his sister and brother-in-law Sylvia and David Zea.
The family would like any memorials to be donated to Mayo Hospice, the Martin Luther Fund at Grace Lutheran Church, the Janice Guse Scholarship Fund at Grace Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
