PC Doctors in Albert Lea will close before the year’s end, however, Pantheon Computers will remain open.

According to a press release, PC Doctor started as a one-man gig in a small shop in downtown Albert Lea. The business grew to support both residential customers and business clients with a handful of employees out of an expanded office on Crossroads Boulevard.

In 2012, PC Doctor was purchased by an IT Managed Services company, Pantheon Computers, to expand its endeavors in Albert Lea and moved the retail operation back into town at its current South Broadway location. At that time, bench technician Curt Soderquist agreed to take on the full roll of shop manager handling retail sales and service.

“Curt has done a great job running PC Doctor,” said Jon Stagman, owner of Pantheon Computers. “He has such a passion for getting customers the right solutions. Whether it be helping a customer select a new computer, or remove a virus, or replace a cracked screen — he’s always ready to roll up his sleeves and get the job done quickly.”

Over the past five years, the IT industry has changed so dramatically it has caused the business channel and residential shop to grow its separate ways over time. Consumers are using more and more devices to do their computing and businesses are going through more regulation of security, deeper use of business intelligence and are developing competitive advantages all through IT solutions.

“These differences have made it difficult to give our residential customers our best attention,” Stagman said. “It has come time to close our residential arm to continue the strong focus we have on our business clients and their solutions.”

PC Doctor will stop receiving computers to be repaired Dec. 22 and will be closing its doors at 3 p.m. Dec. 29.

Computers in for repair will be completed and returned to their owners by closing or delivery arrangements will be made thereafter.
