The Albert Lea Lakes Foundation elected new board leadership at its December meeting. Brian Hensley was elected president, Susie Petersen was elected treasurer and Martha Runden was elected secretary.

Past President Laura Cunningham served as the president and on the board for over a decade.

“Our foundation has been very blessed to have had Laura Cunningham’s leadership over the past 10 years.” Hensley said. “There were many difficult times where Laura essentially pushed and pulled many groups forward on clean water projects and initiatives. Laura leads with passion and her passion for our area and clean water cannot be questioned.”

“The Foundation is in great hands with new leadership,” Cunningham said in a press release. “There have been so many individuals, over the years, that have volunteered toward the local water quality efforts and they would be proud to see the positive things that our group has accomplished. I will remain passionate for the cause and thank the community for their continued support and efforts. The Foundation has many future projects in the works.”

The Lakes Foundation meets monthly, typically the third Wednesday of the month at 4 p.m. at the Convention and Visitors Bureau office at 102 W. Clark St. The group is always looking for volunteers to serve on the board and participate in clean water, restoration and preservation projects. Anyone who would like to join the group for a meeting, has a potential project idea or would like to volunteer, should contact Hensley at brian.hensley@outlook.com.
