Albert Lea Community Theatre announced auditions will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 18 and 19 at Marion Ross Performing Arts Center for the musical “Don’t Hug Me, We’re Married.”
According to a press release, the story takes place in the fictional town of Bunyan Bay, in a little bar owned by Clara and Gunner Johnson. They’ve been married “a long time,” the romance has left the marriage and Clara would like to get it back. When Gunner finds a pamphlet that Clara was hiding for Divorce Fantasy Camp, he realizes he needs to do something. Meanwhile, Bernice, the waitress, gets engaged to Aarvid, the karaoke salesman. Gunner’s twin sister, Trigger, comes to town and proposes to Kanute, the local business icon. It’s a double wedding. Will anyone get cold feet? What could possibly go wrong?
Directed by Sue Jorgensen, eight performances of the musical comedy are scheduled for Feb. 22 through March 3. There are five acting roles in the show — three men and two women. Those auditioning should be prepared to sing, learn a simple dance routine and read from the script. Rehearsals will be scheduled weeknights, with some weekend involvement closer to the performance dates.
